Excluded and locked targets

How campaigns handle target locking and enrolment

Written by Bozidar Nikolic

Campaigns work by executing a flow of interactions on a specific set of targets. All targets enrolled in a campaign are considered “locked”.

By default, locked targets will not be enrolled in new campaigns on the workspace, even if they match the filters. This is expected behavior for most campaign use-cases such as cold outreach.

Targets that are not enrolled, will be excluded, and will not show up in the campaigns Audience screen once it’s created.

You can review all targets that were excluded from the campaign by reviewing the Detailed View in the targeting screen.

Managing locked targets

When creating a campaign, users can choose to allow enrollment of locked targets by using advanced settings.

Advanced settings decide whether the campaign should exclude certain types of targets.

Campaign-level exclusion:

  • Exclude targets currently active in a campaign - the campaign will automatically exclude targets that are currently going through another campaign flow.

  • Exclude targets that were ever enrolled in a campaign - the campaign will automatically exclude targets that were ever enrolled in any other campaign on the workspace. This includes deleted campaigns. Automatically includes option “Exclude targets currently active in a campaign”.

Other exclusion criteria :

  • No profile picture - the campaign will automatically exclude targets that do not have a profile picture.

Notes:

  • Deleting a target from a campaign still considers them as “ever enrolled”

  • The blacklist is completely separate from target exclusion, and is always in effect.
