LinkedIn sets limits on how many actions an account can perform within a certain period. These limits can vary by account, action type, and LinkedIn activity history.
When the platform detects that LinkedIn has limited a specific action, the account is automatically placed into a Cooldown state for that action.
A cooldown does not mean the account is disconnected or broken. It means LinkedIn has temporarily limited one or more actions, and the platform will pause those actions until they can safely resume.
Note: Cooldowns are caused by LinkedIn’s own platform limits. They are separate from any weekly activity goals, campaign limits, or sending targets you may configure inside your outreach platform.
Cooldown Types
The most common cooldowns are:
Connection request cooldown. This resets weekly.
InMail cooldown. This resets monthly.
Exact reset timing is controlled by LinkedIn and may vary slightly between accounts.
What Happens During Cooldown?
Cooldowns are simply indicators that an account was not able to do their last attempted interaction, and that they will automatically retry them when limits reset. They do not greatly change the way you manage accounts, campaigns, or your dashboard.
Accounts in cooldown:
Stay connected
Remain assigned to campaigns
Continue running actions that are not affected by the cooldown
Resume paused activity automatically once LinkedIn allows the action again
No manual action is required for them to resume interactions.
Viewing Cooldown Details on an Account
Inside the account page, the Cooldown section shows whether the account is currently limited and which type of activity is affected.
Cooldown indicators use different colors depending on the interaction type:
Blue snowflake → Connection request cooldown
Purple snowflake → InMail cooldown
These indicators are visible throughout the Campaigns page, account selectors, campaign flows, and account dropdowns, making it easy to quickly identify which type of limitation is currently affecting an account.
Best Practices to Reduce Cooldowns
To reduce the likelihood of LinkedIn cooldowns:
Avoid overly aggressive activity settings
Warm up newer LinkedIn accounts gradually
Spread outreach across multiple accounts
Monitor account health regularly
Balance campaign activity between accounts
Using multiple accounts can help distribute activity more evenly and reduce interruptions caused by temporary LinkedIn limits.
